kjaer weiss lipstick

Never heard of this brand….

KW is a Danish brand founded in 2010, by make-up artist Kirsten Kjær Weis.   I love this quote from her:  “I believe women deserve the feeling of putting the best ingredients on their skin, ingredients the body celebrates and resonates with, not something it’s trying to fight.

This is a luxury make-up brand that’s ahead of its time:  the range is free of parabens, silicones, petrochemicals, artificial colour or fragrance and comes in refillable packaging.

What am I reviewing?

I am reviewing a lipstick that I bought in the sale from Net-a-Porter.  Its ordinarily priced at US$ 49 but I bought it for US$ 34.

What’s inside?

As you would expect, the ingredient list is quite different to the Huda Beauty lipstick that I looked at in this blog  CLICK HERE.

How is this lipstick different to normal matte lipsticks?

For starters the ingredient list is completely different and more focussed on naturally occurring ingredients.

Breaking down the list as follows:

  • Waxes:  Beeswax, Carnauba
  • Oils: Castor Seed Oil (gives a high sheen), Sunflower oil (great for the skin) and Rosehip Oil (also wonderful for the skin)
  • Butters:  She butter
  • Emollients (help with skin feel): Caprylic/Capric triglycerides, Coconut alkanes, Coco-caprylate
  • Coloring agents which may include Carmine, Iron Oxides etc
  • Mica
  • Fragrance
  • Opacifying agents:  (I think, but unsure) Maltodextrin and Ammonium Glycyrrizate  (acts as an anti-oxidant as well)

What is my impression of the lipstick

I absolutely love the fact that this lipstick has fewer synthetic ingredients – I am old fashioned that way – AND it actually has a bunch of ingredients (oils, butters) that are good for my lips.

Also, I love the lipstick bullet –  its heavy in weight and I would happily keep refilling it because it is a beautiful case.

The colour does not transfer too much on glass (vs. other lipsticks I have tried).

However, my love affair with this lipstick is short-lived.

I have issues with the lipstick

  • Skin feel:  the lipstick feels “heavy” on my lips.  I am acutely aware that there is something that is not breathable on my lips.
  • Colour pay-off: my lips show the above colour after seven applications.  Its not good.
  • Fine lines and wrinkles:  my lips were dry when I applied the lipstick, but you and are used to some ingredient (s) filling in the gaps and giving a smooth finish.  This is not the case here.
  • I can’t tell you if its long-lasting because I couldn’t wait to take it off.

Would I buy this again?

No.  Love the ingredient list but it does nothing for me.
