Eucerin Sunscreen Sun Fluid SPF 50

I recently looked at the Eucerin website and was flabbergasted at their growth – they make everything for problem skin. Eucerin started out addressing one issue: melasma and when they launched they had one of the best solutions for his pigmentation disorder.

I have never looked at Eucerin – I think its principally fear because I knew they were targetting a very specific client – those with a pigmentation disorder.

Before I look at the sunscreen, a short reminder

In using a sunscreen, what are the UV filters present protecting us against?

Sunscreen test

This is the sunscreen test I apply to all adult susncreens

1) What are harmful chemicals present?

The harmful chemicals I look for are BHT, Oxybenzone, Formaldehyde releasing preservatives and Oxybenzone is present. None of these are present

2) Is this an SPF 30 sunscreen?

Yes

3) What are the UVA and UVB filters present?

UVB filters

  • Ethylhexyl Slicylate (weak UVB filter),
  • Homosalate (weak UVB filter)
  • Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid (strong UVB protection, that also supports Avobenzone’s stability),
  • Octocrylene (UVB filter, also photostabilises Avobenzone), and
  • Ethylhexyl triazone (strong UVB filter)

UVA filters: Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane (strong UVA filter photostabilised by a bunch of ingredients)

Broadband (UVA and UVB filter): BEMT (Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine)

BEMT provides superior UVB protection as well as UVA protection, tapering off around 360nm. It also photostabilises the UVA filter above

Would I buy this sunscreen?

This is a sunscreen for UNEVEN SKIN TONE and therefore the assumption is that its not for regular skin – but your skin has patches of pigmentation/ is darker in some places / dark spots etc

It also on the packaging says, “Apply maximum of 4 applications of all products containing Thaimidol per day.”

This says to me this sunscreen is very much for those individuals with serious pigment disorders – so dont use it you dont have a seirous pigment disorder. Period.
