When you think of AVEDA you’d ordinarily think of their fantastic hair products. Well, now AVEDA is widely available (especially after the start of the pandemic). I don’t get it either.
The reason why I am writing this review is simply to inform you of what a hideously awful product this is.
It is not hard to make a formula that blends into your skin easily and quickly: its just not. Nobody has time to spend 10 -15 minutes making sure that this lotion has properly blended into their skin.
And honestly, if Indian brands, such as Kama Ayurveda and Forest Essentials can make fantastic, largely natural and non-synthetic chemical based formulas, I expect AVEDA to do the same.
Start
End
This is after about 10 seconds of vigorously blending this pea sized amount of product. As you can see, it looks (and feels) like a thin layer of shaving lather. This phenomenon is made worse when you apply the product to damp skin.
To add insult to injury, one of the ingredients is Lecithin, a skin penetration enhancer. (It is obviously not working well).
Are there any redeeming facets of this product?
Fragrance: the product has a pleasant fragrance. It would appear to be Aveda’s own blend of lavender, ylang-ylang and other flowers.
I don’t particularly like it because I am a white flower person and the notes are almost non-descript. But the fragrance it doesn’t offend me, and this later factor is more important. I live in fear with these “flower and plant essence” type brands that everything will smell of roses (meetha pan) or even worse lavender. (If I had a nemesis, I would name it “lavender.”)
Moisturising ingredients: the natural (and not chemical) moisturising ingredients include:
- olive fruit oil,
- aloe vera (also skin calming)
- palm oil (emollient and occlusive)
- glycerin (humectant)
- sunflower seed oil (emollient and occlusive).
I am also happy to see sunflower seed oil because this has been demonstrated to be effective in skin barrier repair.
Would I buy this again?
No.
Available for sale at AVEDA online for $28 for 200ml.
