Forest Essentials’ Roop Nikhar Gulab Facial Ubtan

Today I am testing Forest Essential’s Roop Nikhar Gulab facial ubtan. This product is a daily cleanser, which comes as a dry powder and really, the first appearance of this product, is OMG this is so awful. Not only is it a brown awful coloured powdered, but it also comes in this hideous plastic container with this blinding fuschia label coupled with a tacky, matte gold top.

I am not sure who was responsible for Forest Essentials’ rebranding but they should be fired (asap).

About the product

Contents are base of almond, pistachio and cashew nuts – and that’s about 67% of the composition as the remaining 23% is made up of:

  • rose flower (25%)
  • citrus peel (2%)
  • katsarya (2%)
  • Neem leaf (2%)
  • Fenugreek (1%)
  • Turmeric (1%)

Instructions for use

The instructions on the package are to use half a teaspoon and form a paste using rosewater, milk or aloe vera. I used 1g of dry powder and 2-3ml of rose water as follows.

The dry powder does swell up, so don’t be tempted to add more liquid

The label says I should expect a “glow” and for regular use to produce “porcelain smooth” skin that is radiant. So, not really setting the bar too high..

What do I think and would I buy this product again?

I actually really like this product – I know, its a Forest Essential’s product and I’d buy it again!

What I like is that there is no afterwash tightness that comes with using a strong facial cleanser. It does leave my skin slightly soft and it is much smoother.

I wouldn’t use this every day (and definitely not in the morning), but I can see myself using this several times a week. I continued with my face routine as normal (toner, Vitamin C, moisturiser and sunscreen). After about an hour, my face was tingling a lot. This is not to be unexpected because I rarely use a physical cleanser.

Using this cleanser regularly, would mean I also exfoliate less often (if at all).

I used rosewater because milk and aloe vera are too much trouble. You may get more brightening with aloe vera (as its a skin lightener) and milk.

Is this value for money?

The powder itself costs INR 1,075 for 70g and I carefully measured out 1g of product. Technically, this should last a minimum of 2.5 months – 5 months (if I use it thrice a week). Its actually really good value for money.
