Qurez Mattifying Sunscreen SPF 50 product review

This blog is meant to be a product review of this particular sunscreen. At the outset, I want to tell you two things. First, when it comes to sunscreen, I absolutely know what I am talking about. I have written over a hundred blogs just on sunscreen and looked at the ingredient composition of 300-400 sunscreen products from India, the USA and Europe.

Second, when I tell you that I am not comfortable using a sunscreen because of the lack of disclosure on the ingredient label, this is a big deal for me.

I can and will continue to complain incessantly about the disparity between the published SPF and UVA protection that a product claims to offer (and does actually offer).

BUT its a rarity for me to complain about the preservative system in a sunscreen

This is Qurez’s ingredient list, which is straight from their website. Here is the LINK. (Data is accurate as at 26 March 2021 and will not be updated).

There is no preservative system that I can identify and be happy with for the water element of this product. Could it be Sodium Gluconate (a chelating agent) and Vitamin E (which prevents rancidity)? Possibly, but I don’t think it prevents microbial contamination that is potentially caused by the presence of water in this product…

Could it be the delivery mechanism or some other technology? I don’t think so, but that’s for the brand to inform me.

Have I asked Qurez for clarification?

Yes. And there has been no response. This is the instagram conversation I am having with their customer service.

And ok, some of you will write to me and say this is an Ayurvedic product. REPEAT after me, Ayurveda is not a reason for a sunscreen to not have a stable preservative system.

Closing

Am I being too harsh on Qurez? Are there other sunscreens that do this and I just haven’t noticed?

The answer to both is yes and yes. BUT my failure to make note of other sunscreen’s preservative system is NOT a defence or excuse for Qurez. It simply isn’t: sorry.

I am not the one selling suncreen. Qurez is. Secondly, I have choice in which sunscreen I can and will buy.
