Undoubtedly, in the run-up to Thanksgiving (24 November), there are/ will be many beauty deals. Last year, I definitely thought that this was the best time to stock up on many skincare products. However, it would be remiss of me not to mention that beauty deals can be a discount trap
Today’s blog is to highlight beauty deals to AVOID and which to look for.
Rule 1 about avoiding discount traps on beauty deals
There are some products, you should simply not buy and the largest ticket item is Fragrance. The Boxing Day sales (day after Christmas in the UK) and the January sales in the USA are absolutely the best time to buy fragrances, especially sets.
Overtly “holiday” or “Christmas” sets are what you are looking for..
Rule 2 the product should be discounted at least 30%
How did I arrive at that very precise 30%? During the course of the year, most skincare brands have offered somewhere between 20% – 30% on their products. Many beauty influencers will give 20% discount codes when promoting products through Instagram.
Therefore, assuming you are buying because this is a discounted beauty event, 30%+ is the magic number
Rule 3 is part of a beauty advent calendar?
Many folks will buy an advent calendar because of the surprise of finding a novel factor in your calendar. E.g., if you are getting a US$ Barbara Strum hyaluronic acid – do you really need to buy another one just because its on sale?
Rule 4: do not overbuy
To an extent self-explanatory – but just don’t buy stuff for the sake of it or because its cheap. If you have never used it before are you really going to start using it now just because its cheap?
What beauty deal am I looking out for?
Over the past few years, I have kept an eagle eye out for beauty deals and my favourites are these:
Huda Beauty make-up sale
Huda Beauty wrote an excellent blog – here is the link – on when the beauty deals start (18 Nov) and how to make the best of the discounts.
Essentially, you want to set-up an account and add all the make-up items that you want. On the 18 November, the discount code will be applied to your basket.
You can take out full-priced/non-discounted items from your basket and just buy the discounted stuff.
The Ordinary and NIOD sale
For the entire month of November, these DECIEM brands offer a 23% discount on all products: that’s the beauty deal.
My favourites are from Left to Right:
Non-Acid Precursor 15%: this is an exfoliator that does not use physical exfoliating ingredients (e.g.) sugar or powdered exfoliators AND also doesn’t use exfoliating acids (e.g.) glycolic acid
Bio-Lipid concentrate: this is stupidly expensive (I admit it) but it is by far my favourite lip product
Myrrh Clay: great clay mask and produces serious skin lightening. Read my review here
Sanskrit Saponins: as we get older our skin needs to be cleaned to a greater extent. If you have a propensity to get oil bubbles then this is the product for you. Read my review here
Electronic devices for the face and body
Before a TikTok influencer made a star of nuface, they basically had at least 30% off during Black Friday (if not more). So if you find a deal on this device then grab it 🙂
