Glow recipe Papaya sorbet cleansing balm

This was a simply an odd balm for me to review, because its waxy but doesn’t have any wax. Lol!

I started to use it as a replacement to the YourGoodSkin Exfoliating Face wash, which I simply disliked. I have so far used this balm about five times and I think that’s enough to deliver a verdict.

Pros of the balm

  • Smells quite nice
  • Does have a skin lightening effect: I have been using it in the evenings and I am stunned that the next day, my skin is one shade lighter. I attribute this to the action of the balm’s fruit extracts, which essentially have exfoliating acids.
  • It removes make-up really well because it contains so much oil. When I use it on my face, it does feel oily BUT its less oily than Kama Ayurveda’s make-up remover. On adding water, the oil turns to “milk” like consistency.

The make up quite literally dissolves into the balm, which is a light orange. The brand describes it as a souffle (its not) – its a light textured balm with a slight waxy feel to it. Only the Pat McGrath black

  • Finally, it removes mineral sunscreen. I have tried this on Bioderm’s mineral sunscreen, and I was pleasantly surprised
  • There is no skin tightness, or dryness indicating that it is not damaging my skin barrier.

Cons of the balm

I have two main issues with the balm

1) Breakouts

In the five times that I have used this balm, it is causing some break-outs. I have got two pimples that are in the process of being formed. While as a teenager and a young adult I had a lot of hormonal related acne/pimples, I don’t as an adult. This is a really big deal for me because its rare for my skin to react to a product. The likely explanation is that the balm is clogging my pores.

The instructions were to use Glow’s blueberry cleanser, which I just assumed was pushing-product. But its not. I should have been using a cleanser.

2) Oilier skin

The morning after I have used this product, my skin is oilier – this is even when I have used an additional cleanser. The extra sebum being produced by my skin is enlarging my pores. Over time, this is going to get worse (because I am old). This factor has the potential to be a massive issue for me.

Would I buy this product again?

Clearly, this is not a hideously expensive balm (at GBP 29). You should see some of the eyewateringly expensive balms that appear online now! I would use it to remove heavy-duty make up or if I was using a difficult to remove mineral sunscreen, but otherwise this not an everyday product for me.
