This product is the first South Korean face cleanser that I have used. It is more expensive than Indian high street staples, but I am generally satisfied with the innisfree products I have used. I wouldn’t say innisfree make dramatically excellent products: they make products that don’t offend my skin and this is an achievement not to be belittled.

In deciding whether or not to use a facewash, I apply this quite rudimentary and basic test of my own design:
1) What are the cleansing agents (surfactants) present?
This product uses a bunch of fatty acids as cleansing agents, making this a mild formulation. These (FA) are listed below. It also uses Lauryl Glucoside, a mild surfactant that is used in natural skincare formulation
Myristic Acid (3rd) | Palmitic Acid (7th) | Lauric Acid (8th) | Lauryl Glucoside (9th) |
2) Does the product have a good preservative system?
This product does not rely on these dreaded preservatives and therefore has a decent preservative system. The dreaded preservatives I am referring to are:
- Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone (see Should you avoid products with Methylisothiazolinone?)
- Parabens
- DMDM Hydantoin
- BHT
3) Does the product have glycerin?
Yes, the product has glycerine. In fact, the second ingredient on the list is glycerine (suggesting to me that the product has c 5% glycerine).
The short story about glycerine is that helps with skin moisturisation. You should really avoid cleansers that don’t even have something as basic as glycerine in them. See also The Critical Importance of Glycerin in the Skin
4) Does the product irritate or dry the skin?
This facewash has a really pleasant green tea smell. Its a bit earthy. The product itself foams-up (small, milky-type foam) rather than big bubbles. It is gentle on the skin. Out of all the facewashes I have tried so far, this is the best in terms of user experience and the least drying.
At the time of writing this blog, I have tried facewashes by these brands: Avene, Clean & Clear, Fabindia, Happily Unmarried, Jolen, Kaya, Lakme, Neutrogena and Richfeel.
What is my view?
Personally, I don’t like so much foam in my cleansers – I have been spoilt by Kama Ayurveda. But I am the exception here. I would happily use this cleanser.
Available for sale for INR 700.

Hello,
Have you got the opportunity to try more upcoming Indian brands like vilvah, just herbs? I would love to hear what you have to say about them. Note i am a consumer like you not any company representative but I am keen to hear what you think of them
Hi – thank you so much for your comment! I appreciate you are not a company rep! Many readers specifically request product reviews – so (e.g.) I reviewed all Lotus Herbal sunscreens because readers wanted this. Do you have specific products from these brands in mind? It would be helpful for me in planning and purchasing.. I did use one just herbs product many years ago when they first started and I didn’t like the experience. But that was before I started reviewing products for my blog and so its probably time to review them! With kind regards, Angeli
