izil is a Moroccan brand and I am a big supporter of niche small brands. However, I have had mixed success with this brand. The regenerating serum and toner were both disasters and I didn’t have the heart to review the moisturising cream. But I loved their illuminating almond scrub.
However, I have used the golden mask before and while this was several years ago, I was hopeful.
What am I testing?
I am testing izil’s honey golden glow mask.
The composition appears to have changed. This mask is a thicker and more difficult to spread product. Thankfully, the container conveniently comes with a spoon and I used 4 small teaspoons to cover my face. It is messy, so my suggestion is to measure out 2-4 spoons in a separate dish and then apply the product.
Ingredients are honey, clay, argan oil, jojoba seed oil. and preservatives and a bit of saffron extract. The face mask does have strands of saffron in it.
The effect of the honey and clay is definitely to tighten the skin and make the skin softer. Honey is a humectant and will absorb water from the environment, giving skin a fuller and more supple feeling. I left the face mask on for 10 minutes (instead of the recommended 10-20 minutes).
Before and after photos
I used the illuminating almond scrub on one side of my face…
After photos
The glow is more apparent on the side of my face that I didn’t take a before photo of!
Would I buy this product again?
Honestly, this is a sticky messy mask to use. Its not helped by a jar format – a squeezy tube format would probably work better here. However, the results speak for themselves: my skin is definitely glowing. Also, dare I say my skin is lighter.
So despite, all the products shortcomings that I have listed above, I would definitely buy this product again. However it is AED 189 (or US$ 50, INR 3,900 excluding shipping and taxes), so its expensive. There are other better performing masks, but they are unlikely to be natural as this is.

Can you please do a review on biotech in watery essence. And top 5 sunscreens for oily acne prone skin available in India easily ? Your review on avene is very helpful but it breaks me out.
Sorry its biore in watery essence
Hi Aprajia – I don’t have access to online deliveries from India, so I am going to struggle re the oily/acne prone skin sunscreen. I will try my best.
I believe Biore is Japanese and as I cannot read Japanese, I am unable to read Japanese regulations on sunscreen. Therefore, I do not review products from countries whose regulation I cannot read. Sorry.
