Happy Skin Days sunscreen test
In deciding whether or not to use a product I apply the following very basic sunscreen test
1) Harmful chemicals present – none that I look for are in this product.
3) UVA and UVB filters
Both UVA and UVB have both been implicated in skin cancer and photo-aging and we want filters to protect against both types of damage.
We are looking for filters that protect against both types of UV radiation.
Filters in this product are:
- Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid (2nd ingredient): provides superior UVB protection and some UVAII
- Octyl Methoxycinnamate (3rd ingredient): reasonable UVB protection
- Zinc Oxide (9th ingredient): UVA and UVB protection – but I wouldn’t pay much attention as listed as 9th ingredient
- Diethylamino Hydroxylbenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (DHHB) (close to 20th listed ingredient): superior protection against UVA radiation, even at low concentrations.
I don’ think this product provides sufficient protection against UVA radiation: there simply is not sufficient quantities of the filters present.
To remind you, this is what PA labelling looks like and I find it very hard to believe this product provides “very effective protection against UVA radiation.”
