If, like me, you completely forgot about Mother’s Day, well, this shopping guide will be useless. BUT, there is a condition precedent to my previous statement: it assumes I celebrate Mother’s Day today.
I don’t.
Mother’s Day is May in our household, as it is in the US and many other parts of the world.
So, this guide is, in fact, opportunely timed. You have an entire two months to figure out which of these you will buy!
My rules for gifts are:
- Nothing kitchen-related.
- A fancy gadget that she can’t use.
- NO ANTI-WRINKLE skincare products.
Because truthfully, nothing says I DON’T love you like a Playstation game thing and a new iPhone for an android user.
The definition of luxury skincare: a LED device
The theory behind an LED device is that helps with collagen production in the skin. Collagen is what gives skin its tonicity and elasticity (and we start losing about 1% per year from about our thirties). If I were a mother (God save that child), I would love this:
Available for sale at cultbeauty for £435 (yes, that’s a lot!). Without VAT it works out at £358 + 5% local taxes for me.
The floral route to brighten your mother’s day
I hate Ferns & Petals, I do. The customer service experience is terrible, and they are the worst floral arrangements that the world has seen.
If you are in New Delhi, I use the services of a new start-up, 1 Magnolia Lane. Honestly, they do not disappoint: the person running the operation is responsive, helpful and has an excellent eye for detail.
This floral arrangement is what they made for me yesterday.
If you are thinking, is it value for money? Yes, it cost INR 4,000. Twenty high-quality roses will set you back INR 1,000. Yes, you read that correctly and that’s a pittance compared to Ferns & Petals.
The Good Earth’s proud work
I love Good Earth: it encapsulates our country’s history (India) through its design and high-quality manufacturing. It feels expensive, but I would rather pay this to Good Earth than a French brand. The sense of pride with my purchases from this modern, eclectic, but still very Indian shop is priceless.
I love this Set Of 3- Rosabagh Tea Service for Rs 12,000.
Finally, every women’s dream: fragrance
If you are looking for something special, then you cannot go wrong with Chanel’s private label collection, Amouage’s tuberose perfume and Creed’s voluminous decanters.
I find that older women prefer more pungent smells, and while the top notes of these scents are all floral, they have a complexity that mothers will appreciate.
In terms of home fragrance (which have seen a growth in popularity over the pandemic), you cannot go wrong with
This newer fragrance from NYC based, DS Durga
Available for sale at DS Durga online for US$ 65.
L’Object’s collaboration with Net-a-Porter

Cire Trudo’s Madurai candle
“Cire Trudon’s ‘Madurai’ candle is influenced by Jasmine’s “quintessential role in India’s myths, legends and daily rituals.” Its hand-poured wax is fragranced with top notes of Ylang-Ylang and rounded off with sweet base notes of Benzoin Resin.” Available for sale at Harrods, Selfridges and Net-a-Porter.
