This is a product review of this product that appears as the No 1 featured sunscreen for kids on Amazon (as at 7th June 24)
In reviewing the kid’s sunscreen, I am checking for all of these ingredients – they are absent except the product has Parfum.
Would I buy this sunscreen for my kid?
The age group we are really looking at is 5yrs+
The ingredient list is below, and if this were a sunscreen for an adult then I would have zero issue with it.
But as we are discussing kid’s I am going to nit-pick as follows:
Sunscreen contains Avobenzone
There is ample evidence to demonstrate that one of the ingredients, Avobenzone does end up in the blood stream. BUT as the USA FDA writes “absorption does not equal risk” and I think that gives this UV filter the legitimacy it needs.
Source: Absorption does not equal risk
Sunscreen contains nano-Titanium Dioxide
In my view, Titanium Dioxide – even nano form – is ok to have in your sunscreen because its such an unreactive compound. If this were a spray, then of course, there would be inhalation issues and the EU regulates this.
Parfum or Fragrance is present in the sunscreen
If your kid has an allergy or sensitivity to parfum, then I am pretty sure you know by now – and you would want to avoid this sunscreen.
My view
Do I like the fact this sunscreen contains Avobenzone? NO – but its not a deal breaker for kid’s who are in the 13-18 year ago group for me.
I think the absence of parabens (as preservatives commonly found in NIVEA products I have vbought in India) this is a massive improvement.
I want to emphasize to you that one of the factors in people NOT USING ENOUGH sunscreen is COST. This is a cheap and effective sunscreen so it gets my vote for kid’s in the 13-18 yr age group
