Like any typical dark skinned Indian, I have different colour tones to my lips: dark at the corners and becoming lighter towards the centre.

Escaping the trauma of applying lipsticks to my caterpillar shaped lips, so that they look symmetrical, may be the only benefit of this pandemic…The reason for using a 5 minute lip mask is protective masks are completely drying out my lips. This is a combination of not drinking enough water and because the skin barrier on the lips is so thin, trans-epidermal water loss at this point lips is higher than (e.g.) the rest of your face.
One of the solutions I am trying out is lip masks…
What am I testing?

Mask is transparent gel film
This is a cheap as chips lip mask made by patchology. Don’t worry I haven’t heard of this brand either, but their ingredient list was full of great ingredients, including glycerin, aloe vera, Sodium Hyaluronate, peptides (for plumping) and Niacinamide.
Outcome
The mask:
- Is cool on application and easy to apply.
- Doesn’t slip off.
- Carries a synthetic watermelon fragrance.

As you can see my lips are plumped up (no fine lines) and look better. They don’t feel super-hydrated though, which is a disappointment. It really defeats the purpose of a hydrating lip mask if within 30 minutes of application I have to reach out for my lip balm. I won’t be buying this mask again…
