Introduction
Skinesis have updated a Moroccan clay mask formula to the 21st century. Let me explain: its active ingredients include Moroccan clay, Argan shell, and kernel extract, and rose oil. Any Moroccan woman will you tell that these are common at-home ingredients that their mothers and grandmothers have been using for centuries. The product has Iron Oxide to imbibe that very red colour that you and I would associate with earthy red clay.
The 21st-century twist comes with the addition of Vitamin C and Hylauronic Acid. Vitamin C is a potent anti-oxidant and skin brightener (See Gold standard Vitamin C serums). Hyaluronic Acid is an excellent humectant that enables your skin to hold more water. The second twist comes in the rubber format of the mask.
The rubber mask format may have originated in the USA but the South Korean’s are certainly making it popular. The main reason being that the rubber mask format delivers more actives to your skin than a sheet mask or normal clay mask formula can.
What am I testing?
I am testing a rubber mask that you make at home. It comes with helpful, easy to follow instructions, a beaker and a very oddly shaped plastic butter knife.
This is what the mixture looks like
And yes, it is as messy as it looks.
Expectations?
My last experience using a rubber mask, was skyn ICELAND Rubberizing Mask, a mask so heavy and cooling that it gave me “faceache” for the rest of the day. I hated that experience, despite the mask delivering brightening results.
Therefore I approached this product test with a sense of trepidation. Although, my expectations were not quite rock-bottom, they definitely were in that vicinity…
The blurb on the product’s website reads….
This unique setting mask is designed to lift, smooth, perfect, and brighten. … this mask will unveil a new, fresher-looking, smoother, and more radiant complexion. Pores appear smaller, skin looks brighter, firmer, and lifted.
Therefore, I expect the mask to moisturiser, tighten, clear up and brighten my skin.
The verdict
There is too much product – even for my ginormous face. On application, the mask is cooling (but not freezing) and non-irritating. After 15 minutes, the product does peel off as one single mask and does not tear.
Importantly, the mask doesn’t cause me faceache and its a “breatheable” mask so that my skin does not feel claustrophobic.
I am very happy with the results. There is definite skin lightening (yippee!), there is some tightening (and you can see that around my jawline). Importantly, unlike other clay masks (especially the skyn Iceland mask) this is not at all drying. I have come to severely dislike clay masks because they just make my skin feel dry as a tissue. This hasn’t happened here. Also, this is non-irritating and quite cooling.
After, my poor experience with skyn Iceland, I was completely expecting at the very minimum, some faceache. It turns out that I was misguided in my apprehension, as using this product was easy and the outcome was great. A first time for everything!
Closing
The product is expensive at GBP 46 for 4 masks (or GBP 11.50 per mask) but it has my vote. It’s available for sale at the product’s website or cultbeauty.
