I will be applying this test
This product has none of the harmful chemicals that I look for. (These chemicals include BHT (Butylated hydroxytoluene), parabens, and Benzophenone-4)
Q2 & Q3) Are skin lightening ingredients present and the strategy for skin lightening?
I like this product. It uses a skin-lightening formulation (WhiteTen) that has been on the market since 2012, sunscreen filters and Nicanamide.
WhiteTen
According to the manufacturer of WhiteTen, it does have a “whitening effect” after 4 weeks and 8 weeks.
The question is do I believe the manufacturer? In this case I do, because if it was a rubbish formulation it would have been discontinued a long time ago. The cosmetic formulation market is in itself ruthlessly efficient in getting rid of deadweight products.
Also, Swiss Image are using the term “WhiteTen” all over their labelling. I have to believe that if they are paying for this ingredient, they must have done due diligence – i.e., verified the safety and efficacy of this formula before buying it.
WhiteTen ingredients – all of which are present in this product are identified as below:
WhiteTen ingredients:
- Mulberry extract (see Mulberry as a skin lightener)
- Paper mulberry extract
- Green tea extract
- Love plant extract
- Apple extract
- Acetyl Glucosamine
- Niacinamide
- Camellia Japonica extract
- Centella Asiatica extract
Niacinamide
Niacinamide is an excellent skincare ingredient. It has a long track record of safety, is non-irritating and importantly, is a skin lightener.
Niacinamide does not interfere with rate-limiting enzyme Tyrosinase, which is the primary enzyme involved in the synthesis of the skin pigment, melanin. Instead,
Instead, Niacinamide downregulates the transfer of melanosomes from melanocytes to keratinocytes by 35% – 68%. Less melanin being transferred to the epidermis means lighter skin.
Sunscreen filters
This product has a bunch of sunscreen filters, which is an excellent thing to have in a whitening product. This is because one of the immediate body responses to over-exposure to UV radiation is that your body produces more melanin. More melanin results in tanning and darkening of skin complexion.
The sunscreen filters present are: Octinoxate, Titanium Dioxide, Diethylamino Hydorxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Octocrylene
Closing remarks
I like this product. Its using White Ten, which does not really on one “hero” ingredient and instead cleverly, uses 10 ingredients that work in synergy to reduce melanin in the top layers of the skin.
If you do plan use to use this product, please absolutely use a separate sunscreen product. You cannot rely on the protection offered by this product – it is simply insufficient
