Tata Harper road test

tata harper

For about US$110, Tata Harper will do a tester kit of a basic routine which I am about to test out. As all the products, are tiny in size I don’t expect them lasting more than a week and a maximum of a fortnight.

However, this should be enough time for me to appreciate the products and also assess my skin’s adaptability to 100% clean products (see below). A common complaint of such clean products is that sometimes, our skins (used to a certain level of crap in skincare) cannot tolerate 100% purity. This is a very clever way of addressing this particular problem.

The products I am testing are:

  • Regenerating cleanser
  • Rejuvenating serum
  • Resurfacing mask and a
  • Moisturiser

Obligatory photo from today

I appreciate it says “after” but thats the last photo from road-testing Kama Ayurveda products.

Initial impressions of the products

I used the products this morning, and my feedback is this:

  • Cleanser: is an exfoliating cleanser whose smell I am indifferent too. It has sharp exfoliating beads that I am not too keen on. Did leave my face with after-wash tightness, which is never a good sign as it indicates damaging the skin barrier
  • Toner: I am disappointed there is no toner in the kit. I used Kama Ayurveda’s Pure rosewater which worked a charm.
  • Rejuvenating serum: spreads very easily and great consistency. Again, is not the best smelling product but I will live.
  • Face cream: the cream is very hydrating and I needed more than the recommended pea sized amount. It is a pleasure to use, except its no Chanel or Forest Essentials’ Date & Litchi cream, in terms of smell.

Who is Tata Harper?

Tata Harper is a lady who really pioneered green beauty. She worked for years with a bunch of scientists to replicate the effect of synthetic chemicals via plant extracts. The products have no artificial fragrance, colour, preservatives, fillers such as silicone etc. Also she has a 1,000 acre Vermont estate and they grow many plants, herbs etc but all production is done on site. Their ethos is the best ingredients.

But note that the company does have a heavy carbon footprint. Do you really need prickly pear seed oil from the Galapagos Islands, because its the “best” when arguably, Mexican prickly pear oil works just as well and is down the road from Vermont?
