I do sometimes feel that the “beauty” reviews are all too focussed on what is the best value for money and performance. The outcome driven reviews often have a checklist and quite frankly, I never read the checklist.
What I have learnt over the past year is that like/dislike of products is a very visceral and emotive feeling. Very seldom are customers ONLY looking for products that solve a problem effectively.
You buy into the emotion and experience of a product and what it represents for you.
What I am trying to say is this: don’t look for logic in criteria because you’ll struggle. But concurrently, I’d challenge you to disagree with me.
Here is my terminal list…
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle The Body Oil
When I tested this product in the shop, I could swear it was in a glass bottle. The limited edition shimmer body oil CHANEL produced was exquisite. It is a work of understated elegance. For me it also has a nostalgic feel to it because it reminded me of my childhood. My mother had the world’s largest No 5 bottle on her dresser and it was wonderful.
So imagine my disappoint when I went home to this:
Its plastic and it looks so tacky. It nullifies the experience of CHANEL being a high-end brand.
Pat McGrath lipsticks
If you read my blog, you’ll know that I might have a secret crush on Pat McGrath. I LOVE her make-up and her lipsticks are super-pigmented and long-lasting
Or at least I thought.
In the photo above, all the lipsticks have a lot of pigment on application (2 coats each).
From left to right (Temptress 595 Lip Shine, Love Train 139 Blitztrance, Flesh Fatale/072 Blitztrance, Vendetta 028 and Forbidden Love 049)
But if I rub off with a tissue, only the darker mattetrance lipsticks remain.
Within the mattetrance range, the lighter shades such as Venus in Furs come off pretty quickly and there is a need for constant reapplication on a night out.
Supremely disappointing.
Forest Essentials Parijat body lotion and body butter
When Forest Essentials introduced this range, quite frankly I loved it and I bought everything. Big mistake. There is a serious issue with the body lotion and body butter not being hydrating enough for this range of fragrance. BUT no such issue exists with the other fragranced ranges that I have tried.
I have spoken to a number of folk who love the Parijat range, and all of them agree – there is an issue with this
I will do a post on the best products I have encountered every quarter or at least report on that!
