Five days ago, I started a new review of Forest Essentials’ products, mainly because there are so many. Its main competitor, Kama Ayurveda has many new products and therefore, I feel its an opportune to time to revisit both ranges.
You can read more about the products I have selected at this link
The shortest review of Forest Essentials’ products?!
I know what you are thinking: how can 5 days possibly be enough to review an under-eye serum?
Either its a miracle in a bottle, clearing all my dark circles and puffiness or something is wrong.
Unfortunately, its the later.
The problem with Forest Essentials’ under-eye serum
I initially suspected something was up, as the water component of the product appeared to have separate from the fat content – its hard to photograph. But the left and the right sides of the bottle are dissimilar and there is sediment formation as well.
Has the product expired?
Nope, as you can see its valid until 04/2024
Why didn’t you just shake the bottle?
As a formulator, I can tell you for free that the emulsion is broken. An emulsifier is essentially the “glue” that binds water and oil together so that you get a nice lotion (or technically an emulsion).
The best before date 04/2024 indicates that the emulsion is stable until that date.
I didnt shake the bottle because if the emulsion is unstable, then this could mean:
- The preservative system isn’t working as it should. Preservatives are important to protect against microbial contamination
- One or more of the ingredients has gone off…
Opening the bottle of Forest Essentials’ under eye serum…
I sometimes feel as if I overthink things and this is one such instance. Clearly from the pipette, the liquid has become broken.
The product itself smells a bit sour like vinegar – not quite like it but similar.
Finally, as you can see from the plate the under-eye serum is split and there are granules. If you have experience of cooking milk, this is exactly what you want to avoid – a split emulsion
I am not going to use this..
Unsurprisingly, I will not be using this product.
It cost me INR 2,750 and I am not keen to pay that for a new bottle. My revised routine will include my trusted nuface device. Its a pity, but such is life.
