Antipodes Queenstown Hot Chocolate lipstick

Never heard of this brand…

This is a brand from New Zealand, and the marketing blurb is, “Antipodes is a Scientific Green Beauty™ company from New Zealand that uses pollution-free, results-driven native New Zealand ingredients in its award-winning plant-powered vegan beauty™ and certified organic premium skincare range.”

What am I reviewing?

I am reviewing a US$ 25 lipstick from Antipodes. Its more a neutral coloured lipstick than brown.

What’s inside?

The ingredient list is surprisingly short and simple. Its also full of nutrient dense Argan, Avocado and Evening Primrose Oil. Its important to note that despite the marketing blurb above, not all the ingredients can be from New Zealand. Argan oil is an oil of the desert and the last time I checked, New Zealand is lush and green.

What’s my impression of this lipstick?

The lip colour does not at all match that on the website. I hate it when that happens as there is no excuse in today’s world.

What’s my impression of this lipstick?

Surprisingly, the lipstick is not at all heavy on my lips as other natural lipsticks are/can be. There is still that general lack of breathability that comes from lipsticks that contain too much wax.

The lip colour is 100% matte without any shine at all.  Colour pay off only arises after repeated application of the lipstick (the photo above is the 7th run on my lips).

Colour does bleed a fair bit, onto my glass of water

The lip colour does not at all match that on the website. I hate it when that happens as there is no excuse in today’s world. The lipstick is much more brown than the orange-brown advertised on the website.

Would I buy this again?

The lipstick is a class act – it has a bunch of oils and butters that are great for your skin.

However, this lipstick is simply not for me. The closed textured/unbreathable nature of any lip colour is a deal breaker for me. And don’t even get me started on the rubberized lipstick case that the lipstick comes in. I am not a fashionista but even I would not be seen dead holding such a lipstick.

My reasons are (yes) completely superficial and that’s ok: I own this.
