Bioderma Photoderm Lait Ultra (Moisturing Lotion) SPF 50+

This blog is a product review of Bioderma Phtoderm’s Moisturising Lotion also called Photoderm Lait ULTRA.

Yup, I am getting so confused by the no of name Bioderma has come up with its product line too

Damages caused by UVA radiation

A brief reminder of how important UVA filters are in a sunscreen, because most damage is done by UVA radiation.

Look and feel of the sunscreen

I really like this as a body lotion. It has these features that I like:

  • Blends in so easily
  • No whitecast
  • Easily substitutes for body lotion
  • No fragrance
  • Not irritating any part of skin

Happy Skin Days’ test

Would I buy this Bioderma sunscreen again?

Absolutely. Its GBP 20 for 200ml and this is a reasonable price to pay. I can think of no reason not to buy this sunscreen.

Where can I buy this Bioderma sunscreen?

In Europe the best place to buy Bioderma sunscreens is here

***Geek details***

The harmful chemicals I look for are BHT, Oxybenzone, Formaldehyde releasing preservatives and these are absent.

Protection against UVB radiation is being provided by a combination of DBT (primarily) and then BEMT and Ethylhexyl Triazone.

UVB protection comes from DBT, Ethylhexyl Triazone and BEMT (broadspectrum filter).

UVA protection comes from Avobenzone and BEMT (a broadspectrum filter)

DBT provides superior UVB protection upto about 315nm and then horrific UVA protection (haha).

BEMT is a broadspectrum filter (so is supporting DBT). Ethylhexyl Triazone is present as the 9th ingredient and provides superior UVB protection; its photostable; AND importantly doesn’t need to present in high quantities to be effective

BEMT has following features:

  • Broadspectrum (so cover UVB and UVA regions)
    • Provides superior UVB protection and its UVAI protection starts to taper off at about 360nm
  • Is a large molecule, so no skin absorption
  • Photostable, so doesn’t break down as soon as it comes out a tube.
  • Is effective even at low %

Abbreviations used

DBT: Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone

BEMT: Bis-ethylhexyloxphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine
