Fresh White Sand by TENAMYD

Never heard of this brand? Neither had I. This appears to be a Vietnamese brand that for some reason is selling products via a Canadian corporation. I don’t think its anything dubious – its simply trying to achieve worldwide recognition. This does not mean the product is regulated in Canada.

Should you be buying this product? I will be applying this skin whitening test

Q1) Does the product contain harmful chemicals?

Yes. It contains Parabens (methyl- and propyl- parabens) and Imidazolidinyl Urea. I avoid parabens because they are estrogen mimickers. (See also Chemicals to Avoid – Parabens) and Imidazolidinyl Urea as it is a formaldehyde-releasing preservative. Formaldehyde is a chemical used in embalming.

I respect your prerogative to use product containing both of these chemicals. Please continue reading.

Q2) What are the skin lightening ingredients present?

There are 4 skin lighteners: Vitamin C, Arbutin, Licorice extract and Mulberry extract.

The Vitamin C present is Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, which is a stable derivative of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant and reduces free radicals and also achieves skin lightening by preventing tyrosinase from being produced.

Arbutin is an extremely strong skin lightener. It’s a tyrosinase inhibitor as is Mulberry extract (or Morus Alba). Mulberry extract is very commonly found in South Korean and Japanese products, as is the licorice extract (Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate) present in this product. Licorice extract, is one of the safest skin lightening agents, with few side effects: it is also a tyrosinase inhibitor.

Q3) Product’s strategy for skin lightening?

The product’s strategy is to use SMALL AMOUNTS of principally tyrosinase inhibitors.

These all reduce the amount of skin pigment, melanin in the skin, causing the skin to appear lighter.

Would I buy this product again?

I don’t doubt this combination of skin lightening ingredients will cause skin lightening. Its a singular strategy to cause skin lightening. This product is not for me as it contains both parabens and a formaldehyde releasing preservative.

If you do use this product, please also use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 that gives protection against both UVA and UVB radiation.
