Happy Skin Days April shopping guide

It’s not quite April yet, but I kind of already know what I’d love to buy this month, and as some of these are limited edition, I thought I’d jump the queue.

Malone Souliers

At first glance this appears to be a collaboration between Liberty of London and the luxury shoemaker, Malone Souliers. I absolutely love the floral print of these slingbacks. And yes, they are awfully pricey at GBP 435, but I am finding it difficult to get them out of my head. Now, if only I met a man like this (I have, but you know, life).

Prerto accessories

I love this brand and the OTT vibe of their new season, is just perfect for spring. Especially a spring that promises a break away from the lockdown. If your inner-girl has been crying out to dress as much as possible, then here are a few accessories from the brand.

The Finey Bag. Available online for INR 36,000 at Pretro.

This is about INR 36,000 which is not as outrageous a price as it could be. The other details are: “Handcrafted with Swarovski crystals, luminous pearls and semi-precious stones, the Finey Bag is sure to make some heads turn wherever you go! Finished with a luxe velvet pouch on the inside, you could hold the bag with its classic round handle or go a little extra with its detachable studded strap.”

…finally, if you need motivation to get fit for the summer, then how about this? The “Suki” waist available for INR 18,000 at Prerto online

Kesya jewellery

I accidentally stumbled across this brand, which is completely mispricing its jewellery, especially the men’s collection. It does old-fashioned cufflinks and buttons, which I love. And I find these earrings stunning. (MRP is INR 6,400)

Available at Kesya online and Good Earth. Source of image: Good Earth

Voyeuristic vaping (of a fragrance)

Only an Indian would think to put a whisky (that too, Johnny Walker) in a candle. This candle is a collab between D.S. & Durga and Jonny Walker. I can’t wait to go to New York and try this in D.S. & Durga’s store.

Asian disruption: fragrance?

There is a gap in the market for homegrown fragrance. I love Love in White by Creed, but it is the Omani fragrance brand, Amouage that hits the spot with Ciel and its Tuberose offering.

I spend a shed load on fragrance – smelling lovely is part of Indian and Asian culture. It is reassuring to see two fragrance brands take the first steps in that direction. Both are Singapore start-ups (where else?!). The second brand offers international delivery and a tester box for US$45.

The founder of this brand is an Indian lady, with two decades of experience in the fragrance industry, so I am super-excited about this. From the brand’s website: “A radiant and exhilarating top note of white ginger lily dominates the start. On skin, it evolves into a delicate watery white floral with warm-fruity-spicy undertones. Fragile yet tenacious, with hints of dark sambac peeping through. Mood: Delicate, Radiant, Feminine

  • Top notes: Bergamot, Freesia, Ginger flower, Middle: Jasmine Sambac, Peach and Base: White Musk

At a much higher price point, (but worldwide shipping), we have Maison De L’Asie. I have placed an order for the discovery set. The “Nanyang” parfum takes my fancy and the brand’s verbiage is,” A sophisticated unisex tea fragrance that pays homage to old Singapore. Nanyang is a distinct and androgynous fragrance inspired by the South Seas and Chinese diaspora. With hazy, dreamy black tea, Nanyang evokes a richness of culture, harking back to golden days with warm facets of greenery and malt. A hint of white flowers suggests the crispness of linen suits whilst bold leather creates a striking contrast between shadow and light. Nanyang is a fragrance of transformation – one that brings striking facets together to create a unique fusion of the old and the new, East and West, and the black Yin feminine moon counterpart to the white Yang and order of the masculine Sun.”
