ILIA colour block lipstick product review

Never heard of this brand….

ILIA is a clean beauty brand that focuses principally on make-up that also doubles as skincare.  In that respect its very similar to rms beauty.  In fact, for the longest time it really was just these two brands on the market. Click here to read more.

What am I reviewing?

This is a product review of ILIA’s colour block lipstick, which I bought in the sale.  It ordinarily retails at US$ 28.

The shade is TANGO and this is the professional image from the brand.

And then there is me….(please don’t laugh as hard as I did).

What’s inside…

As you would expect, the ingredient list is quite different to the Huda Beauty lipstick that I looked at in this blog

Other ingredients and their function are as below, and I’ll add that bar the colour pigment this would be a great lip repair product. It has shea butter (amazing for any part of your body) and then anti-oxidant rich grapeseed oil and raspberry oil. Finally you don’t find vitamin loaded (especially A,C and E) rosehip oil in products because its expensive. I feel reassured that my $$ are spent on ingredients that help my skin (and not fillers etc)

What’s my impression of this lipstick?

  • The smell is an imperceptible cocoa/caramel (barely there) smell.  You barely notice it (unless you are paying a lot of attention)
  • Skin feel is definitely much better than other lipsticks from clean beauty range that I have tried
  • But the texture is a bit heavier vs normal lipsticks (and I still notices the texture after an hour or so)
  • Colour pay-off is high:  lip colour stays for a long, long time.
  • The lipstick bleeds onto my teacup (a lot), which I expect because the composition does not include a synthetic ingredient(s) that holds colour in place.

Would I buy this again?

For US$ 28 this is a good lipstick and the fact that it actually has skin friendly ingredients is a bonus.

I am definitely going to buy this lipstick and keep it in my bathroom. I will be honest with you, I love feminine lipstick cases – I started buying Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Christian Louboutin because of how beautiful their cases are. This lip case is so boring it is causing me to question my existence.

While the colour does bleed – and this is a pet peeve – I have found the “tissue trick” works here to reduce colour bleed.. (That is, apply lipstick and then press into tissue…)

not my thing
