Indian skincare routine for 50+

As part of my work, I am speaking to many women of all nationalities and I wanted to share with you my suggested approach to improving a routine

Current routine

Current skin type: normal to combination.

Principal concerns

  • Dark circles around eyes
  • Some sagging skin

1) Morning routine

In the morning said person currently washes face with a bar soap, followed by toner, a face oil and sunscreen.

2) Evening routine

Uses a make-up remover (Forest Essentials make-up remover oil and/or locally available organic coconut oil) to remove dark kajal, followed by washing face with bar soap), a toner (locally available)+ hyaluronic acid product or a retinol product and a night cream

Suggested changes to routine

  • Drop the soap as soon as you can.  I appreciate the “squeaky clean” feeling that comes from using a soap and its very symbolic of the times we grew up in (but ditch it)
  • When its possible, I would add a neem face wash or a mild tea tree face wash – just for those days when you feel like your going to get a pimple or something

The order of the routine

Closing

The person has good skin and I’ve not suggested many drastic changes to their routine, because they have a routine that clearly works. Apart from using the bar soap they are not doing anything incorrectly.

I’ve mainly suggested three products of note:

  • A Vitamin C serum, as person is concerned about sagging skin and Vitamin C helps with collagen production in the skin. (Suggested this product which cost US$ 49)
  • Eye serums: I am suggesting two because they’ve never used an eye serum and I can’t find a product that has Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid (Suggested eye cream One and serum Two)
  • Face wash: any face wash apart from a bar soap would do, but this is what said person has used in the past.
