izil almond scrub

After writing a (deservedly so) scathing review of izil’s glow toner, I thought I’d give the brand a chance to redeem itself with today’s product.

I was not disappointed. The key (as with many skincare products) is to follow the brand’s instructions.

What am I testing?

An almond scrub, whose prominent ingredients are:

  • Glycerin, honey, sorbitol and panthenol: these are all humectants and absorb water from the surrounding area as well as the skin. Humectants are a common moisturising strategy for skincare products. (Read more at this BLOG).
  • Powders of sweet almond seed and argan shell: which act as exfoliators.

I really can’t fault the ingredient list.

How did I test the product?

I think the product is a body scrub, but given the ingredient list you may be tempted to use it on your face. Please don’t. It has a rough and granular consistency, lacking the finesse of Forest Essential’s facial ubtans.

I tried the product on my hand – I was supposed to add a little water, but things regularly go south (quickly) in the domain of leopards and panthers.

However, I did manage to give my hand a good scrub with the exfoliator.

Results

The before and after photos speak for themselves. My skin is softer and feels smoother, indicating that both the humectant and the exfoliators have done their job (i.e., exfoliated and moisturised the skin).  I would suggest that you moisturiser straight after using any exfoliant – your fresher looking skin has not previously been exposed to the elements and is bound to lose more water than usual- so trap it with a moisturiser.

Would I repurchase this?

Most Made in Indian exfoliators (not Forest Essentials) are DIY jobs, where you mix a Multani mitthi concoction with yoghurt or water. The problem is that the products, tend to smell awful and leave a hideous lingering smell around you.

This scrub has a musty citrus smell with a note of almonds. There is no honey smell, indicating a commercial grade of honey. It does not smell amazing.

However, once you add water to the mixture and use the product, it does not leave any smell. This is fantastic news for me.

However, at USD 50 its expensive, given that I predict I won’t get more than three applications out of it if I am using it all over my body.

I will be buying this product again, but only for select areas of my body to ensure it lasts longer.
