IZIL Ultimate Hydrating Dry Oil

I love IZIL as a brand – they make an excellent green tea scrub which is definitely on my to do list to review. However, recently I bought this after bath oil.

(I have 100% converted from being an after-bath lotion/cream person to an oil person. I squarely place the blame on Forest Essentials’ parijat oil, which smells so intoxicating, that I cannot live without it).

With body oils, its very hard to buy a product that WILL NOT hydrate your skin. Most body oils will have some combination of:

  • Coconut esters (called Caprylic/Capric triglycerides)
  • Nut oil (Almond is popular in India, but I have seen Apricot oil as well)
  • Sunflower oil (cheap as chips)
  • Jojoba oil (slightly more expensive, but a wax that is identical in composition to our skin’s sebum) and other
  • Other oils (more expensive oils and present in smaller quantities), such as
    • Grapesee oil
    • Argan oil
    • Glycine soja oil
    • Rosehip oil

Uniformly all of these will help your skin become more hydrated because they are contributing to the lipids in your skin barrier (lipid matrix) and this helps your skin lose LESS water. If trans-epidermal water loss reduces, then your skin feels softer and more supple.

What am I reviewing

IZIL produce a White Rose Ultra-Hydrating Rose Oil, which has this composition:

The composition of the product is excellent – it has prickly pear oil, jojoba oil, nut oils (macadamia, hazelnut and apricot) – all of them great for the skin

What do I think?

I like the fact that it comes in a glass bottle (infinitely more recyclable) than a plastic one.

Also, it has a super-strong spray so that the oil does not block the pump.

I used it on DAMP skin and quickly absorbed into my skin. I did not need to reapply any other product because my skin felt soft and hydrated.

BUT

Always a but. The smell is of white rose, which is unbearable for me. It smells like rose-flavoured paan I do not remember the last time I disliked a smell so much. And its so odd, because I have never had an issue with smells and IZIL before.

If you are planning to buy this, I would suggest you to try a small sample in their shop before. This is a strongly rose scented fragrance which is not for everyone.

Available for sale here This oil is not cheap. It cost AED 215 (or US$ 60) so be sure to try before you buy

Is this an organic product?

Its not and it does feel expensive at this price point.
