Kama Ayurveda 30 day product road test

Introduction

Before I started this road test, I had a serious bout of hormonal acne. What I mean by “serious” is a few big zits, with one new zit making an appearance every day. This is a big deal for me because I test skincare products. However, one of Kama Ayurveda’s USP and justification for its (sometimes) terrible scented products, is that we work for troubled skin.

What did I road test?

I went to a physical shop and bought everything a well-informed assistant sold to me. I will highlight that she said, it takes about 3 months on average to see the full effects of the routine she recommended.

This was pre-COVID 19.

Life is too short.

There hasn’t been the skin lightening that I was expecting, but this is not the product’s fault: I have been out in the sun a lot this month.

However, I would point out this:

  • My skin is beginning to become more even-textured and definitely, Kama Ayurveda’s products have been kind to my pores
  • There is a definite glow to my skin (look at my noise)
  • Kama Ayurveda’s products did not exacerbate my hormonal acne. In fact, I believe they did the opposite, which is to be anti-inflammatory (especially the rose water) and prevented dark acne scarring.

My main issue with some of the products is the overpowering and pungent smell. Also, the packaging of the products is not great. The Survarna Haldi and Chandan face mask came in a plastic bag…

…and the glass pipette that came with the Kumkumadi beauty fluid was faulty.

Which products would I buy again?

The rosewater, exfoliator and the cleanser were excellent. I would not say “no” to the face cream and I like the Kumkumadi beauty fluid – but these products have strong smells and I am not in a rush to buy them.

But if you are ambivalent to smells, then they are excellent products. I really use the word “excellent” on this website, so please appreciate that these products are formidably excellent. I simply cannot stand the smell.

I will not be using the Survana face mask again because of its pungent and horrific smell.

From Left to Right (clockwise)

  • Rosewater (INR 1,150 for 200ml)
  • Suvarna Haldi Chandan Brightening Face pack (INR 1,595 for 40g)
  • Rose Jasmine Face cleanser (INR 850 for 100ml)
  • Kumkumadi brightening face scrub (INR 1,450 for 50g)
  • Kumkumadi beauty fluid (INR 2550 for 12ml)
  • Eladi hydrating face cream (INR 1495 for 50g)

A note on purchasing Kama Ayurveda products

If you live outside India, Kama Ayurveda think it is appropriate to charge you an extortionate price. For example, the Eladi Hydrating cream is US$56 for something that costs US$ 20 in India.

My workaround is to buy on Nykaa India (you can pay by paypal) and use Shop & Ship to deliver to my location outside India.
