The Face Shop White Seed White Moisture Cream

No harmful chemicals that I look for are present in this product.

Frankly, the first time I read the product list, I was underwhelmed. It is quite a short list of ingredients for a Korean product and I didn’t identify many skin amazing ingredients. When I re-read the ingredient list, I realised two things:

  1. It achieves skin lightening through two chemicals, Niacinamide and Hexyl Resorcinol.
  2. Hexyl Resorcinol is used a lot in the food industry to prevent food from turning brown due.
    1. It is an extremely powerful skin lightener and the effects of 0.5% Hexyl Resorcinol have been compared to 2% hydroquinone.
    2. It is a tyrosinase inhibitor. (Our skin colour is mainly due to melanin, a skin pigment, which takes the form of Eumelanin (dark/brown) and Pheomelanin. Tyrosinase is the main enzyme involved in the synthesis of melanin). Less melanin produced results in fairer skin.
  3. Niacinamide does not interfere directly with the synthesis of melanin but instead reduces the amount of melanin being transferred to the epidermis (the topmost layer of our skin). Less melanin in the epidermis results in the skin appearing visibly brighter/whiter or fairer skin.

Would I buy this product again?

The only other noteworthy ingredient in this product is Lupinus Albus seed extract, which appears to be an anti-aging ingredient

This product should whiten skin, and I would use it because it contains Hexyl Resorcino. However, there are cheaper (but not necessarily better) products if this does not suit your budget.

If you do plan use to use this product, please absolutely use a separate sunscreen product with at least an SPF 30 and that protects your skin against both UVA and UVB.
