ultrasun anti-ageing and anti-pigmentation SPF 50+ PA++++

Never heard of this brand…….

ultrasun is the epitome of “Swissness” in that, its formulation was designed in Switzerland and now, its manufactured and distributed from there.

Switzerland is also the perfect place to road-test a sunscreen.

The Swiss are regularly exposed to intense UV radiation through their national past-times (winter sport and summer hiking), which takes them to high altitudes, where there is little or no cloud cover.

UVA radiation increases in intensity at higher altitudes.

I’ve been using this product for nearly a year….

This is my go-to face sunscreen and my experience of using it is:

I can confirm that it leaves no “whiteness” or “greyness,” which is nothing short of a miracle for an SPF 50+ product.

It is important to apply this product after you’ve used a cleanser and toner (optional), as the SPF protection relies on a chemical reaction between the product and the skin directly.

ultrasun

This means that if you must use a moisturiser or a serum after you cleanse and tone, then ideally this is not the product for you.

Do I really need to apply it directly to the skin? Are you sure?

The short answer is yes I am. I even asked Ultrasun on their Facebook page to confirm this. Here is the LINK and this is their response:

“we recommend that you always apply the sunscreen first so that it can bond with the skin in the best possible way. Best regards from Switzerland, your Ultrasun team.”

Other noteworthy attributes

Anti-oxidants

Anti-oxidants in product aim to neutralise free radicals that are ordinarily part of the skin’s reaction to UV radiation.  This reaction is more melanin being produced by the skin. But less melanin being produced means less tanning.

The anti-oxidants in the product are Derivatives of Vitamin C (Ascorbyl Glucoside and Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate) and Ubiquinone.

Ecotin

The product also contains Ecotin, which according to its manufacturer “is a natural multifunctional active ingredient, especially developed to protect our skin from pollution induced damage and ageing. Its global cell-protection benefits are proven by various clinical, in-vivo and in-vitro studies.

Passes the Happy Skin Days’ test

This passes my test as (i) its an SPF 50+ product (ii) with superior UVA and UVB filters (iii) and has no harmful that I specifically search for, namely any form of parabens, Oxybenzone, or BHT.

The six sunscreen filters are:

"New filter" are unavailable in the USA, but are legally permitted in the EU and most of Asia. "Old filters" are permitted by most countries. "Photostable" refers to the filter not easily degrading when exposed to UV radiation

“In the final sunscreen product, its always the combination of (all these) UV filters that determines its range and efficacy of protection.” All six sunscreen filters give the product a high SPF as well as a high PA rating. A PA++++ rating gives very effective protection against UVA radiation.

Finally…

This is a great sunscreen. I haven’t reviewed this product for a few reasons. First, its price (GBP 32 for 50ml) and second, its lack of international availability especially in the USA and India.

Even in the UK, retailers frequently have selective availability. Online retailers include:
