Wedding skincare preparation

You may be anticipating that this blog is about the bride. Let me disabuse you of that notion: this blog is for everyone attending the wedding except the bride. In the cruel light of inept camerapersons (all the aunts that hate your guts), everyone is a star at a wedding.

A couple of months ago, I wrote a blog (see below) detailing how to prepare your skin for the mountains of make-up that I anticipate any reasonable woman who is not a philistine would wear. I recently revisited this advice and realised that it was not what I am doing. (I am 30 days away from attending an Indian wedding and my skincare routine couldn’t be more different.

It struck me that, there is a dichotomy between what bloggers/influencers say they will do and what they actually do. And this is one of those situations.

My actual skincare routine

Today I will outline in detail the intense nature of my skincare routine. Like preparing for a marathon for my skin, it is planned, unrelenting and not for the fainthearted.

Morning routine

Evening routine

The aim of my evening routine is to space out different types of treatment without damaging my skin barrier. So, I do not exfoliate or oil cleanse more than once a week, as I am concerned that excessive use of both treatments would harm my skin.

My evening routine in a nutshell is:

  • 5-6 days a week using a nuface device including its laser attachment. At the very minimum, this is a 30 minute routine.
  • 1x / week exfoliate
  • 1x / week oil cleanse
  • 2-3 x / week use a face mask
  • 2-3 x / deep cleanse using NIOD’s Sanskrit Saponins

Depending on how my skin feels, I may apply a Vitamin C serum and light moisturiser to finish off my evening routine. But this is not a given. I decide on the day itself whether my skin needs it.

Closing

This is my face yesterday and I will take a photo in a month’s time showing you what my face looks like. You can then decide whether you want such an involved routine because let’s be honest, this is expensive as a trip to Mars and back.
