UMA anti-aging body scrub

Ordinarily, summers would be the perfect time to try-out body scrubs – days out on the beach, the park. If you are British, your previously hibernating body and feet are clambering for their fair share of Vitamin D.

Even though fewer of us are venturing out, the sales of at home-treatments has gone through the roof. We are still focused on self-care. Hurray!

Never heard of this brand….

UMA is an Ayurvedic brand that manufactures its products in the USA. In the words of the Founder, the brand is a natural response to the “bastardisation” of Ayurveda that she perceives in the American market.

I have previously tested UMA’s USD 70 brightening mask with questionable results. (Link below)

What am I testing today?

For USD 50, UMA makes a 5oz anti-ageing scrub, that combines salt, coconut sugar, coconut powder and honey along with neem and essential oils.

I expect the product to exfoliate my skin and leave it smoother. Given the low level of humectants (ingredients that absorb water), I don’t expect the product to leave my skin hydrated.

Photos of the product

The product looks like brown molasses, but its surprisingly just the right amount of sticky. Its smell is indistinguishable.

Would I repurchase this product?

Yesterday I tried izil’s almond scrub (link below) and frankly I didn’t think it would be possible to top that experience. But UMA have delivered on this scrub.

My dead skin cells have disappeared, to the extent that my skin looks “cleaner,” (dare I write, “whiter”) and feels softer.

Importantly, the product does impart a crisp smell, which is fresh and revitalising. The faint and lingering scent is a happy marriage between the orange and neroli essential oils.

The product is expensive. It cost US$ 45 for 5 oz (or 140g). izil’s almond scrub cost US$ 50 for 280g.

However, very little of the product goes a long way. With izil’s almond scrub, I cannot imagine getting more than three uses if I was using it all over my body. However, with UMA, I predict the product is going to last at least five more rounds.

I would rebuy this, and between izil’s almond scrub and this product, UMA gets my vote.

P.S. Quality control at UMA

This brand has quality control issues. With the brightening mask, the mask was too dry and did not at all look like the photos on UMA’s website. This product came with a cracked lid and quite frankly, at USD 50, I really expect the product not to have a cracked lid. I am going to write and complain to the company. I think its common decency/civic responsibility to make skincare manufacturers aware of their faulty products rather than simply embarrassing them on social media.
