UMA brow oil product review

From UMA’s website, the marketing blurb is, “Prep, prime, and nourish the brows with this nutrient- and moisture-packed blend. This weightless formula contains cypriol essential oil, which helps stimulate roots, encourage fuller and thicker looking hair, and to preserve the appearance of the pigment by fending off the appearance of premature greying….”

This is a product that promises “nourishing” and fuller eyebrows. It does not promise growth (but stimulates growth), because its simply unpopular for hair oils to claim growth. The rationale appears to be oil molecules are too large to penetrate the skin and facilitate growth.

That’s absolute codswallop in my humble opinion. First, the oil molecules are not going through the top layer of the skin (the epidermis), their trajectory is through the hair shafts. Second, Indians generally have a lot of hair. Its not our amazing nutrition that contributes to this, but the practice of oiling our hair, every week since childhood. You can immediately distinguish girls that haven’t done this (me) with those that have (my cousin sister’s with voluminous, beautiful hair).

This photo is from July 2020, and you can just about see that my eyebrows are thinning and not thick at all.

This photo is from yesterday and I hope you can see the “sprouts” of new hair emerging in the gaps that had begun to form in my eyebrows.

I am astounded that this product promotes hair growth.

How to use the product?

I use this about 3-4 times a week, as I don’t want to douse my hair in oil. My hair follicles on eyebrow are not used to oil. I use the product straight out of the shower (with the hope that the area around the hair shaft is open and therefore will absorb the oil.

I do something bizarre (don’t laugh), but I use an electrical toothbrush and brush over my eyebrows before I apply the oil. My theory is if the muscles in your head supporting hair, need a bit of exercise, then why not those on your eyebrow? I push the oil in with the applicator.

Would I buy this product again?

Yes, but for now, I am eyeing Revita’s products for my eyebrows…
