juicy chemistry Saffron, Rose and Australian sandalwood face scrub

What am I testing?

Today I am testing juicy chemistry’s face scrub. The ingredients are: sugar, salt, rose petals, Vitamin E (prevent rancidity), rosemary extract and oils (grapeseed, argan, sunflower, jojoba, geranium and sandalwood). Honestly, there is very little not to like about this face scrub, except I am concerned that the sugar and salt will cause micro-tears in my skin (it is salt and sugar…)

Smell and colour (worth a separate mention!)

When you open the jar, the face scrub smells divine. I didn’t think sandalwood and saffron together could smell so beautiful, but for the duration of taking photos initially I was joyful.

The colour of the product is this slightly darker pink colour and you can see threads of saffron (wohooo!).

What do I think of this product and would I buy it again?

Honestly, this would not be my first choice of product for a face scrub, but the results speak for themselves. There is definitely a removal of dead skin that I didn’t think I had. My initial concern that the sugar/salt mixture would damage my skin appear to be unfounded because you have to use the mix as a paste. As water dissolves the sugar and salt, the size of granules automatically reduces, thereby lessening the chance of skin damage by abrasive action.

The outcome is:

  • My skin is a tad lighter and the dullness has visibly gone.
  • There is no skin tightness and my skin doesn’t feel dehydrated and it is a tad softer. (This is a really good indicator that the product has not damaged my skin barrier).

Note that I didn’t follow the instructions and leave this on till it was dry – I counted to 40 and then washed the product off. I would never leave such a product for longer than that, because if could damage my skin.

(My photography skills need a miracle – I appreciate that).

Quick note on instructions

The instructions are to add enough hydrosol to make a runny paste and quite frankly, because the main composition of the product is sugar and salt, these instructions are rubbish.

You can see from the photo above I have added a bit too much water and I had to start again!

What you should do, is add drops of water and see if the paste is coming together. You really need less water than you think.

As the face scrub contains no preservatives and by its nature is hydrophilic, its important to:

  • use clean dry spoons to take product out
  • keep the jar closed and store in a cool and dry place (i.e., not the bathroom)

Available for sale at juicy chemistry for INR 700 for 75g.
