Space NK Beauty Advent Calendar 2020 product review

When I lived in London, the Space NK boutique near Lord’s cricket ground was one of my favourite haunts. The staff were knowledgable, cheerful and friendly. There was never any hard sale, and they were generous with their samples. So naturally, I am excited about this advent calendar 🙂

But, first what is and Advent calendar?

“Advent” means Coming in Latin and an advent calendar counts the days to Christmas.  For example, this is the Jo Malone 2020 Advent Calendar.

It has 24 individually numbered drawer and in the countdown to Christmas, you open a drawer/day and it will reveal a present (e.g.) a candle, parfum, soap etc.

• Retail price is not disclosed on Space NK. Last year’s price was £195
• Space NK claim products are worth £630+

What does £195 buy?

The total value of savings I come up with is £570 and not £630. The difference is likely because I take the largest size of a product to allocate value and Space NK do the opposite. E.g., for REN I take the pricing of the 500ml product, which is £35 and Space NK probably take the most expensive price of £6 for 50ml.

P.S. As Alexander Pope wrote, “To err is human, to forgive divine” so my calculations may have errors. Don’t shoot me, tell me.

Allocation between categories

The category split is: Skincare (51%), Bodycare (19%), Makeup (15%), Hair (8%) and a candle (7%).

What do I think?

Skincare forms the largest category of product worth (£289 or 51%), and of this three products stand-out:

• Dr Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum 10ml, worth £60
• Kate Somerville Retinol Vitamin C Moisturiser 50ml, worth £77
• Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream 15ml, worth £62
• Chantecaille Bio-Lifting Mask 15ml, worth £44

If you are not going to use all of these products, you should ask yourselves, if this is the correct calendar for you…
