DIPTQYUE Advent calendar 2020 value for money

If you are a regular reader, you may have noticed I am covering the value for money proposition of advent calendars. As I am British, I know firsthand how voraciously popular advent calendars are and always assumed that they were value for money.

Not so with the Jo Malone advent calendar. With other calendars (Harrods, Liberty, cultbeauty and Fortnum & Mason) I will let you decide (click on this link)

But first, what is an advent calendar?

“Advent” means Coming in Latin and an advent calendar simply counts the days to Christmas. In the UK, a brand such as Jo Malone, will sell a 24 day advent calendar.

Its a huge box with 24 individually numbered drawer and in the countdown to Christmas, you open a drawer/day and it will reveal a present (e.g.) a candle, parfum, soap etc. The calendars are limited edition and there’s usually a waiting list. As a result, when most advent calendars go on sale in October, they are sold out.

Ordinarily, I’d buy an advent calendar because its offers (say) products worth £600+ if you pay (say) £200 or something.

Diptqyue make no such claim and I wonder if it is worth purchasing.

  • Retail price in the UK: £320
  • Release date: mid-October (to be confirmed)
  • Appears to be no waitlist, so I am afraid its joining the online queue when it is released

Is it value for money?

Unlike the Jo Malone Advent Calendar, you pay for what you buy and a little extra, as I cannot price a few items. In my mind as an Indian, this is more than completely acceptable. Here are the numbers

I am actually pleased that this calendar offers a broad range of its products (that appear to be bestsellers). No one is being hoodwinked into thinking this offers more value than £320. I can live with that.
